Dr. Joseph Savage is a board-certified in emergency medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He is a clinical instructor of Emergency Medicine at Yale New Haven Health.
Prior to accepting his position at Yale, he was a Flight Surgeon for the International Space Program. While at NASA, his many duties included serving on spaceflight toxicology team. He is a veteran, and he has done over 50 live-round SWAT team operations and has completed two overseas tours. Reaching the rank of Major, his honors include the US Meritorious Service Medal, the Gagarin Space Medal, and Knighthood in the Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem. In writing, he is currently completing an MFA in Popular Fiction at Emerson College in Boston. He won the International Thriller Writers Opening Sentence Contest in 2019. A big fan of the Volunteer State, he once served on the board of directors of the Knoxville Writers Guild. His talk today is titled “Things I Shouldn’t Tell Writers About Poisoning.” |
